Paula Robinson joined CanalAbility as a trustee in 2015 and became Chair of Trustees in 2016. She applied as a volunteer for the charity after finding an advert in a local newsletter and joined CanalAbility in her first voluntary role.
She initially trained as a first-mate; and has since completed a national boating qualification with the charity, to become a skipper. Paula believes it is very important that the trustees and staff can interact with the clients directly. Through the friendliness and openness of the clients and volunteers, Paula has witnessed first-hand, the difference that spending time on the boats can make to people’s lives.
Paula previously spent 21 years working for a leading blue chip technology company, as a programme manager and wanted to be able to use her business experience to benefit a local charity. With her knowledge of business and financial experience, she aims to assist with the promotion of CanalAbility. Additionally, she acts as the organisation’s Data Protection Officer, ensuring that data is safe and helping to promote a safer working environment for everyone.
In her spare time, Paula loves going sailing. Accompanied by her partner John, she has been to a range of locations across the world and even lived on a sailing boat in the Caribbean for a year.
