May I offer my heartfelt thanks for a super day today on the Stort Challenger. My mother Moya Page was delighted to be able to enjoy a trip on the river for her 92nd birthday; something she thought she would never do again. When younger she loved a quiet row on the upper Thames and although this wasn’t quite the same it was an enormous pleasure for her to watch the river and the banks slipping past, and a real thrill to be encouraged to steer and then later to be seated up on the lift for a perfect view. And then a warm room from which to shelter from the rain – perfect! The rest of us had a great time too; I must say it has whetted my appetite for inland waterways.
Your three volunteers were outstanding; professional, safe and competent but also friendly, enabling and good company. I hope they enjoyed the day as well.
It turned out to be an extra-special occasion as a nephew/ great-nephew who has been abroad for a couple of years made a surprise appearance and shared the day with us. so I think it is fair to say it was a day we will all remember with enormous pleasure.
My mother feels she is unlikely to be in a fit state to do this again another year and my comment on the feedback form reflected that, but I will certainly recommend this strongly to others with disabled family members. It was a joy for all of us to see her looking so animated and excited, steering the boat.
