CanalAbility welcomed over 100 people at it’s free Open Day on Sunday 28th April, with many new faces visiting the charity for the first time and enjoying the free mini canal boat cruises.

The Open Day was organised by our team of dedicated volunteers and visitors could find out all about the charity, meet Trustees and volunteers, find out about the waterways and experience free cruises along the river on the adapted canal boats.

People visited from all over the region, including Basildon, Loughton and London. Many of the visitors had a disability themselves or had a family member with a disability or special needs and all enjoyed the day.

Refreshments were provided by ASL – Aspire Support Learn, a community interest company offering employment opportunities and day care to young adults with additional needs. They provided drinks and lovely homemade cakes which were so popular they had sold out by 3pm!

We received some lovely feedback about the event:

“Brilliant trip on the Stort, with lovely friendly volunteers. nothing was too much trouble. we will be back!”  Maggie

“Thankyou for a lovely experience, my sons first time on a boat and loved it xx” Julie

“A fantastic afternoon, our first barge trip with a wheelchair! Thank you to all the inspiring volunteers that made the afternoon so enjoyable.” Sue
