What a great way to take a day out, this inexpensive treat is a great way to take in the sights and sounds of the river! Just stock up with plenty of picnic fare, and set off on a journey of exploration along the river Stort through the idyllic Hertfordshire and Essex countryside.
We steer, and you decide where to go, whilst our specially adapted canal boats provide all the facilities needed for people with disabilities to enjoy and fully participate in the trip.
At no extra cost, we provide you with a fully qualified skipper and crew. So you can either take it easy and enjoy the scenery, or get involved and be part of the crew yourself.*
Where to Go
Possible Day Routes
We offer day hire which consists of 4 hours cruising and the boat is exclusively yours. In 4 hours you will travel through at least two locks and take in the idyllic scenery along the river Stort.
Travel to Roydon and back, taking in Parndon Mill and Hunsdon Mead nature reserve on the way.
Alternatively cruise north past Harlow Mill towards Sawbridgeworth.
Our Specially Adapted Canal Boats
We have two boats to choose from – Stort Daybreak and Stort Challenger. Both boats have fully equipped galleys to prepare your own meals, or you can stop off at several nearby pubs and restaurants or, bring your own picnic to enjoy as you cruise along.
Each boat is centrally heated to allow you to cruise all year round. Our Christmas Cruises in December are especially popular.
Either way you can take in the scenery, watch the ducks and swans float by, and marvel at the Kingfishers and their antics.

We work with mainstream and specialist schools, and community groups to deliver activities that enhance the curriculum, help students / young people develop new skills and interests – or simply get active and have fun – all in a safe, stimulating and rewarding environment that’s accessible to all!
Prices vary depending on the group size, range of activities and session length
Terms and Conditions
Frequent Users
- A 10% loyalty discount will be applied to each booking fee when more than one booking is
made during any 12 month period by the same client or group.
- Each boat counts as a separate booking (i.e. a trip for 22 passengers using two boats counts as two bookings.)
- Each of the trips can be taken at different times throughout the year.
- Where two or more bookings are made at the same time the discount will be applied to each booking. Where a second (or more) booking is made at a later date the discount will apply to this second (and any more) bookings. It will not be applied retrospectively to the first booking.
- The discount is not available if other discounts or price reductions have been applied
