Autumn is a great time of the year to explore the river so why not get afloat and enjoy the best of the autumn colours on an adapted canal boat day trip, mid week short-break or holiday with CanalAbility.
Fresh autumn days are the perfect season to explore the stunning Essex and Hertfordshire countryside from the comfort of your accessible, fully equipped wide beam canal boat. As you glide along, marvel at the changing colours of the season as the leaves on the trees begin to change into their autumn palette. The river tends to be much quieter at this time of year so you can relax and enjoy misty mornings, the soft autumn sunshine and the sights and sounds of the river.
Our boats are all centrally heated, fully accessible and perfect if you have mobility difficulties, or are a wheelchair user. With ramps & lifts to enable access via wheelchair and for people with impaired mobility, and disabled toilet facilities, our boats allow everyone to take an active part in its operation. See the individual boats for details of their accessibility features.
Day trips are fully crewed by qualified volunteers, at no extra cost, so you can just sit back and take it easy or have a go at steering the boat or working the locks yourselves.
As our crew steer you through the pretty Essex and Hertfordshire countryside, you can discover watermills and country houses, mills and maltings. There are also plenty of wildlife watching opportunities with a wide range of waterbirds and waders to see on their autumn migration. Read our Sights and Attractions blogs to discover more.
